What's Happening?
The Sheboygan Astronomical Society is organizing a series of free stargazing sessions at Maywood, starting on April 25. These sessions will run throughout the summer and fall, providing an opportunity for the public to explore the night sky. Participants
are encouraged to bring their own binoculars or telescopes, although equipment will also be available from society members. The sessions are scheduled for various dates, with the first session set from 8-10 p.m. on April 25. The park's Ecology Center will be closed during these events, but a portable toilet will be available. Cloudy skies will result in cancellations.
Why It's Important?
These stargazing sessions offer a unique educational opportunity for the community, promoting interest in astronomy and science. By providing free access to telescopes and expert guidance, the Sheboygan Astronomical Society is fostering a greater appreciation for the natural world and encouraging public engagement with scientific activities. Such events can inspire future generations to pursue careers in science and technology, contributing to a more informed and scientifically literate society.
What's Next?
The Sheboygan Astronomical Society has planned additional viewing sessions on May 23, June 20, July 25, August 22, September 19, and October 17. These sessions will vary in timing, with most occurring from 9 to 11 p.m. The continuation of these events depends on weather conditions, as cloudy skies will lead to cancellations. The society will likely continue to promote these sessions to increase public participation and awareness.
