Murata Manufacturing Co., Ltd. has introduced the GCJ21BD72A225KE02, a groundbreaking soft-termination chip multilayer ceramic capacitor (MLCC) designed for automotive powertrain and safety equipment. This new product achieves a capacitance of 2.2μF at 100Vdc
in the compact 0805-inch size, a feat previously only possible in the larger 1206-inch size. The innovation results in a 51% reduction in board mounting area and a 2.2x increase in capacitance compared to Murata's previous offerings. The soft termination enhances reliability by absorbing board flexure stress, reducing post-mount cracking. The capacitor supports an operating temperature range of -55°C to +125°C and meets X7T temperature characteristics per EIA standards. This development is part of Murata's efforts to address the increasing demands of vehicle electrification and the sophistication of autonomous driving and advanced driver-assistance systems.
