What's Happening?
Graham 'Skroo' Turner, CEO of Flight Centre, successfully completed his ninth London Marathon alongside 18 other employees from the company, known as 'flighties'. Turner, aged 76, first participated in the London Marathon in 1982, during its second edition.
Recently, a medal from that original race, which was believed to be lost, was recovered. The completion of the marathon by all 19 Flight Centre staff was highlighted by the company as a testament to their determination and team spirit. Among the participants was Tod Horton, co-founder of Flight Centre's Healthwise initiative, which has been promoting health and productivity among employees for over 25 years.
Why It's Important?
Turner's participation in the marathon underscores the importance of health and wellness in corporate culture, as exemplified by Flight Centre's Healthwise initiative. This program emphasizes that personal health is crucial for professional success and community well-being. Turner's continued involvement in such endurance events at his age serves as an inspiration and reinforces the company's commitment to fostering a healthy work environment. The event also highlights the role of corporate teams in major international sporting events, promoting teamwork and corporate identity on a global stage.
