Natalie McCarty, a senior from Newport Harbor High School, concluded her high school track and field career by setting a new Orange County record in the girls' 300-meter hurdles. Competing at the CIF State track and field championships at Clovis Buchanan
High, McCarty finished the race in 41.74 seconds, surpassing the previous county record of 41.86 seconds set by Nyree Brown in 2018. This achievement also allowed McCarty to break the Newport Harbor school record previously held by Emma Kratzberg. McCarty's performance was particularly notable as she had been recovering from a foot injury and surgery that kept her out for nearly eight months.
