What's Happening?
OptiGrid has commenced the production of its Reservoir DC fast chargers in Kansas City, Kansas, marking a significant step from design to commercial deployment. The manufacturing takes place at Orange EV's facility, supporting assembly, testing, and scaling
to meet nationwide fleet demand. The Reservoir chargers are designed to deliver high-performance charging without requiring costly grid upgrades, storing grid energy in a 180 kWh onboard system to provide up to 200 kW fast charging. This innovation aims to support fleet electrification by reducing grid input and enabling more vehicles to operate on limited power. Additionally, Vanair and Workhorse are expanding their offerings with idle reduction systems and electric step vans, respectively, to enhance fleet efficiency and reduce operational costs.
Why It's Important?
The production of advanced EV chargers by OptiGrid is crucial for accelerating the adoption of electric vehicles in commercial fleets. By providing a solution that bypasses grid limitations, OptiGrid's technology can facilitate a faster transition to electric fleets, which is essential for reducing carbon emissions and operational costs. The move also highlights the growing trend of electrification in the transportation sector, driven by rising fuel costs and environmental concerns. Companies like Vanair and Workhorse are contributing to this shift by offering products that enhance fleet efficiency and sustainability. This development could lead to significant changes in fleet management practices and infrastructure investments.
