Despite efforts by coworkers to rescue him before emergency services arrived, the worker succumbed to his injuries after being transported to a hospital. A witness, Antonio Marcos Ferreira dos Santos, reported that the victim was trapped under a collapsed structure. Shakira is still expected to perform at the free concert on Copacabana Beach in Rio de Janeiro on May 2.
