The Nebraska Cornhuskers football team experienced a significant drop in attendance at their 2026 spring game, with only 27,188 fans attending compared to over 80,000 in previous years. The game, held on March 28th, faced several challenges including
an early kickoff time of 11:00 am and cold weather conditions with temperatures in the 40s. Additionally, the use of a running clock throughout the game, intended to shorten the event, may have contributed to the low turnout. The scheduling of other Husker sports events on the same day, such as baseball and softball games, also played a role in the reduced attendance. Despite these challenges, the University donated part of the proceeds to support ranchers affected by prairie fires in western Nebraska.
