What's Happening?
Harbour Air has introduced a new seaplane service connecting Victoria, B.C., and Seattle, operating daily during the summer season. This new route aims to enhance travel convenience between the two cities, eliminating the need for long drives to airports
and lengthy security checks. The inaugural flight took off on June 11, 2026, and the service is expected to complement the existing Vancouver-to-Seattle route. The new service is part of Harbour Air's expansion strategy, with additional routes to Ucluelet and Campbell River set to launch later in June and July, respectively. The introductory fare for the Victoria-Seattle route is set at $99 CAD for one-way tickets, available until June 18 for travel between June 25 and September 30.
Why It's Important?
The introduction of this seaplane service is significant for both tourism and business sectors in the region. By providing a direct and efficient travel option, it is expected to increase the flow of visitors from Washington State, which is a key market for Victoria's tourism industry. The service is anticipated to boost economic activity by facilitating easier business connections and attracting more tourists to the area. The Greater Victoria Chamber of Commerce has expressed optimism about the potential economic benefits, highlighting the increased connectivity and choice for travelers.
What's Next?
As the service gains traction, it is likely to see increased patronage from both tourists and business travelers. The success of this route could lead to further expansion of Harbour Air's services, potentially increasing the frequency of flights or adding new destinations. Stakeholders in the tourism and business sectors will be closely monitoring the impact of this service on regional economic activity and visitor numbers.
