Alaska Airlines is embarking on a significant global expansion, aiming to transform from a regional carrier into a global player. The airline, which is part of the Oneworld alliance, launched its first transatlantic flight from Seattle to Rome on April
28, 2026. This move is part of the 'Alaska Accelerate' initiative, a three-year, multi-billion-dollar expansion plan that includes at least 12 new intercontinental routes by 2030. The airline plans to operate these routes using a fleet of Boeing 787-9s and -10s. Alaska Airlines' CEO, Ben Minicucci, has expressed the ambition to make the airline the 'fourth US global carrier,' leveraging its strong presence on the US West Coast to expand internationally.
