What's Happening?
Comedian and art collector Steve Martin, alongside Ann Philbin, former director of the Hammer Museum, is organizing an exhibition to honor the artistic legacy of Martin Mull. The exhibition, titled 'Martin Mull: The Joys of Indoor/Outdoor Living,' will
be held at the Santa Barbara Museum of Art from June to October next year. This marks Mull's first museum show since 2006. Known for his roles in 'Fernwood 2 Night' and 'Roseanne,' Mull was also a dedicated painter, having earned degrees from the Rhode Island School of Design. The exhibition will feature over 50 of Mull's works, many of which have not been publicly displayed since their initial gallery showings.
Why It's Important?
This exhibition serves to highlight Martin Mull's contributions to the art world, which have often been overshadowed by his acting career. By bringing Mull's paintings back into the public eye, the exhibition aims to cement his legacy as a significant artist. The collaboration between Steve Martin and Ann Philbin also underscores the intersection of celebrity influence and art curation, potentially drawing new audiences to appreciate Mull's work. This event could inspire a reevaluation of other multi-talented individuals whose artistic endeavors deserve recognition.
