What's Happening?
Converge ICT Solutions, a broadband provider in the Philippines, has inaugurated a new 12MW data centre in Angeles City, Pampanga. This development marks the completion of the company's national digital infrastructure buildout. The Angeles Data Centre
is designed to support high-performance computing workloads, particularly for artificial intelligence and machine learning applications. It will also house Converge's sovereign cloud infrastructure. The facility's initial IT load capacity of 12MW is scalable and will be powered by renewable energy, similar to Converge's existing data centres in Clark and Pasig. This new centre is part of Converge's broader digital architecture, which includes nearly 900,000 km of fibre, three international cable systems, and two new landing stations in Davao and La Union.
Why It's Important?
The launch of the Angeles Data Centre is a significant step in enhancing the digital infrastructure in the Philippines. By expanding its data centre capabilities, Converge is positioning itself to support the growing demand for advanced digital services, including AI and cloud computing. This infrastructure is crucial for enabling technological advancements and supporting the digital transformation of various sectors in the country. The use of renewable energy for powering the data centre aligns with global sustainability trends and reduces the environmental impact of digital operations. This development is likely to benefit businesses and consumers by providing more reliable and scalable digital services.
What's Next?
With the completion of its digital infrastructure, Converge is set to enhance its service offerings and support the digital journeys of its customers. The company is expected to leverage this infrastructure to introduce new technologies and services, potentially driving innovation across different sectors. As the demand for digital services continues to grow, Converge's expanded capabilities may attract more enterprise customers and partnerships. The focus on renewable energy also positions Converge as a leader in sustainable digital infrastructure, which could influence other companies in the region to adopt similar practices.
