OpenAI has launched a new initiative called 'Daybreak' aimed at helping developers build secure software from the outset. Announced on May 12, 2026, Daybreak leverages OpenAI's advanced large language models (LLMs) and its AI-coding assistant, Codex,
to address software vulnerabilities early in the development process. This initiative is an extension of OpenAI's Trusted Access for Cyber (TAC) program, which provides selective access to certain frontier models for vetted organizations. Daybreak includes three of OpenAI's latest models: GPT-5.5, GPT-5.5 with TAC, and GPT-5.5-Cyber, along with Codex Security, a code-review assistant currently available as a research preview. The program aims to accelerate cyber defense by enabling tasks such as scanning codebases for vulnerabilities, triaging vulnerability backlogs, and automating vulnerability detection and response.
