What's Happening?
Delcath Systems, Inc., an interventional oncology company, has announced two new investigator-initiated trials-in-progress abstracts to be presented at the 2026 American Society of Clinical Oncology (ASCO) Annual Meeting. These trials focus on the use
of Delcath's HEPZATO KIT Hepatic Delivery System in treating metastatic melanoma involving the liver. The first trial is a Phase 2 study evaluating the sequential use of HEPZATO followed by tebentafusp in patients with metastatic uveal melanoma. The second is a Phase 1b/2 study assessing the combination of HEPZATO with nivolumab/relatlimab for metastatic non-uveal melanoma. Both trials aim to explore the efficacy and safety of these treatments, with the potential to improve outcomes for patients with liver metastases.
Why It's Important?
These trials represent significant advancements in the treatment of liver cancers, particularly metastatic melanoma, which is notoriously difficult to treat. By focusing on liver-directed therapies, Delcath Systems aims to enhance the effectiveness of chemotherapy while minimizing systemic side effects. The outcomes of these trials could lead to new standards of care for patients with liver metastases, offering hope for improved survival rates and quality of life. The research also underscores the importance of innovative approaches in oncology, potentially influencing future cancer treatment protocols and encouraging further investment in similar therapeutic strategies.
