What's Happening?
The inaugural Apna Hockey Elite Female Camp took place on April 24-25 in Surrey, British Columbia, bringing together 20 South Asian female hockey players. Organized by Apna Hockey, the camp aimed to provide a supportive network for South Asian players in Canada.
Chanreet Bassi, a former University of British Columbia forward and the first South Asian drafted by a Professional Women’s Hockey League team, was among the participants. Bassi expressed her amazement at the talent and number of players present, noting the significant growth in the participation of South Asian women in hockey. The camp is part of NHL.com's celebration of Asian & Pacific Islander Heritage month, focusing on the contributions of people of color in the sport.
