What's Happening?
Mineral Resources (MinRes) has announced a final investment decision to expand its Mt Marion lithium project in Western Australia, in partnership with Jiangxi Ganfeng Lithium. The expansion will include the construction of a flotation plant and the introduction
of underground mining operations. The total capital investment for these projects is estimated at A$490 million, with the construction of the flotation plant set to begin in the first quarter of FY27. The expansion aims to increase the site's spodumene concentrate capacity from 500,000 tonnes to 600,000 tonnes annually. The project is expected to enhance plant recoveries to approximately 70% and replace the lower-grade SC3.5 product with a single SC5 product. The development will occur on the traditional lands of the Marlinyu Ghoorlie People, with minimal disruption anticipated during construction and commissioning phases.
