What's Happening?
Outdoor Rooms by Design, a well-known retailer in Kimberling City, is closing its doors after more than two decades of operation. The store, which specializes in outdoor furniture and custom design services, is holding a final liquidation sale starting
March 5. Founded in 2004 by Randy and Sharon Renyer, the business has been a staple in the community, offering a hands-on design approach and customer service. The Renyer family, including daughters Casie and Crystal, has been integral in shaping the store's reputation. The closure marks the retirement of the owners, and the store's 18,000-square-foot showroom will host the sale, featuring discounts of up to 70% on various items such as outdoor furniture, reclining furniture, mattresses, grills, umbrellas, and fire pits. The store has been recognized as a Top 100 Patio Store by Casual Living magazine for several years.
Why It's Important?
The closure of Outdoor Rooms by Design signifies the end of an era for the Kimberling City community, where the store has been a significant presence for over 22 years. This development highlights the challenges faced by family-owned businesses in maintaining operations over long periods, especially as owners reach retirement age. The store's closure may impact local employment and the availability of specialized outdoor furniture and design services in the area. Additionally, the liquidation sale offers an opportunity for consumers to purchase high-quality, American-made products at significant discounts, which could influence local spending patterns. The building's availability for lease also opens up potential for new business ventures in the region, potentially altering the local economic landscape.
What's Next?
Following the closure, the community may see changes in the local retail landscape as the building becomes available for lease. Potential new businesses could bring different services or products to the area, impacting local consumer choices and economic activity. The Renyer family's retirement may also inspire other long-standing business owners to consider succession planning or retirement, potentially leading to further shifts in the local business community. The liquidation sale is expected to attract significant consumer interest, which could temporarily boost local economic activity.
