Mid Valley Disposal, a waste management company based in Fresno, California, has unveiled a new state-of-the-art processing line that incorporates artificial intelligence to enhance recycling operations.
The company, which has been in operation for 30 years, introduced this advanced system to improve the sorting and processing of recyclables such as cardboard, aluminum cans, glass, and plastic bottles. The new line, equipped with AI-powered robots developed in partnership with California-based AI company Glacier, aims to increase processing speed and reduce the amount of residual waste sent to landfills. This expansion, which began its design phase in 2024, was supported by a $4.5 million grant from Cal Recycle, contributing to a total investment of $12 million. The upgrade is expected to increase the company's throughput from 35 to 60 tons of recyclable material per hour while reducing operating hours from six days a week at 12 hours a day to five days a week at 7 hours a day.
