What's Happening?
Private-equity firm VMG Partners has invested $24 million in Stars + Honey, a U.S.-based collagen protein bar company. Founded by CEO Daniel Rainey in 2023, Stars + Honey plans to use the investment to support its omnichannel expansion, product development,
and brand growth. Currently, the brand's products are available online through its website and Amazon, but it is set to debut in its first retail store by the end of the month. The funding will also facilitate the construction of a new 60,000 square foot manufacturing facility in Novi, Michigan, which will replace the current production site in Decatur. This facility is expected to begin operations in the final quarter of 2026. VMG general partner McConnell Smith will join the board of directors as part of the investment deal.
Why It's Important?
The investment by VMG Partners is significant as it positions Stars + Honey for substantial growth in the competitive health and wellness market. The new manufacturing facility will enable the company to scale its operations nationally, potentially increasing its market share. The expansion into retail stores marks a critical step in reaching a broader consumer base, which could drive significant revenue growth. For VMG Partners, this investment adds to their portfolio of consumer-packaged goods, aligning with their strategy of investing in promising food brands. The move also highlights the growing consumer demand for health-focused products, particularly those free from common allergens and additives.
What's Next?
Stars + Honey is expected to continue its growth trajectory with the support of VMG Partners. The company plans to launch additional bar flavors and expand its retail presence, aiming for $50 million in revenue by 2026. The new manufacturing facility will play a crucial role in meeting increased production demands. As the company enters retail markets, it may face competition from established brands, but its focus on quality and unique product offerings could differentiate it. The involvement of VMG Partners may also open doors to strategic partnerships and further investment opportunities.
