What's Happening?
The Odisha state cabinet has approved a significant investment proposal by Tata Power Renewable Energy Limited to establish a solar manufacturing facility in Ganjam district. This project, valued at Rs
10,000 crore, is set to be developed in the Tata special economic zone (SEZ) and aims to create over 5,000 jobs, including many skilled positions. The facility will be constructed in two phases, with a production capacity of 10 GW ingot-wafer and 5 GW solar cell manufacturing. This initiative marks the first upstream solar manufacturing unit of its kind in Odisha. The project is expected to boost the state's renewable energy sector and catalyze ancillary industries such as glass, chemicals, packaging, logistics, and precision machinery, thereby generating additional opportunities for micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs).
