What's Happening?
The American Gladiators reboot is set to premiere on Amazon Prime Video with WWE star Mike 'The Miz' Mizanin as the host. The series will debut with three episodes on April 17, followed by additional episodes on April 24 and May 1. The reboot features
a lineup of pro wrestlers including AEW's Wardlow and Kamille, former WWE wrestler Eric Bugenhagen, and independent wrestler 'J-Rod' Jessica Roden. The original American Gladiators series aired from 1989 to 1996, with a previous reboot hosted by Hulk Hogan and Laila Ali running for two seasons in 2008-2009.
Why It's Important?
The reboot of American Gladiators signifies a continued interest in combining sports entertainment with reality television formats. Hosting the show with popular wrestling figures like The Miz and other pro wrestlers could attract a diverse audience, including wrestling fans and those nostalgic for the original series. This move may also provide a platform for wrestlers to showcase their personalities outside the ring, potentially expanding their fan base and increasing their marketability. The timing of the premiere, coinciding with WrestleMania weekend, could leverage heightened interest in wrestling entertainment.
