Gerry Byrne, the vice chairman of PMC, the parent company of Variety, is set to receive an honorary doctorate of humane letters from Fordham University. This recognition will occur during the university's commencement ceremony on May 16. Byrne, a Fordham alumnus,
has had a distinguished career in media and publishing, including serving as the first publisher of Crain's New York Business and as a senior executive at ACT III Communications. His contributions to the media industry and his advocacy for military veterans have earned him numerous accolades, including the Navy's Distinguished Public Service Award. Byrne will be honored alongside Maureen Corrigan, a book critic for NPR, and Hoda Kotb, who will also serve as the commencement speaker.
