What's Happening?
DNV has launched version 2 of its Steel Load Planner (SLP V2.0) at the Posidonia trade fair. This updated self-service application automates the planning of steel coil stowage, a complex task due to variations in coil size and weight. The new version uses
AI to optimize loading plans, allowing even non-specialists to efficiently plan cargo stowage. The application provides a comprehensive dashboard that displays cargo distribution and key shipment figures, facilitating better decision-making. SLP V2.0 also accommodates mixed coil stowage and non-standard tier arrangements, enhancing the loading capacity of vessels.
Why It's Important?
The introduction of SLP V2.0 addresses the challenges faced by the shipping industry, such as tight tonnage supply and increasing regulatory costs. By optimizing cargo capacity, the tool helps ship owners and operators remain competitive in a demanding market. The automation of planning processes reduces reliance on manual input, increasing efficiency and accuracy. This development is significant for the maritime industry, as it supports efforts to maximize existing resources and adapt to evolving economic and environmental pressures.
