GKN Aerospace has announced the launch of the TITAN-AM program, a collaborative effort with the U.S. Air Force Research Laboratory (AFRL) aimed at advancing additive manufacturing technologies for aerospace applications. The $8.4 million initiative focuses
on the industrialization of Laser Metal Deposition with Wire (LMD-w) technology to produce next-generation aerostructures. The program will address five key areas: industrializing LMD-w processes for large-scale titanium components, developing robust titanium material datasets, enhancing simulation capabilities, refining non-destructive inspection techniques, and demonstrating the technology on selected aerospace components. The project will be executed from GKN Aerospace’s Global Technology Centre in Fort Worth, Texas, which serves as a hub for advanced manufacturing innovation.
