What's Happening?
The Mansfield Public Art Commission, in collaboration with the Mansfield Richland County Main Public Library, is organizing a prehistoric-themed art exhibition titled 'Unearth a Story.' This exhibition is part of the library's summer reading program and aims
to encourage participants to explore themes related to history, paleontology, and the narratives buried beneath the earth. The exhibition is open to artists of all ages, with categories for youth, teens, and adults. Participants can submit up to three original pieces in various media, including painting, photography, digital art, textiles, and mixed media. All submissions must be ready to hang, and while art can be listed for sale, no commission will be taken by the organizers. The deadline for submissions is May 29, with accepted artists being notified by the week of June 1. The exhibition is set to begin on June 15.
Why It's Important?
This exhibition provides a platform for artists of all ages to showcase their creativity and engage with the community through art. By focusing on a prehistoric theme, the event encourages participants to delve into historical and scientific exploration, fostering educational growth alongside artistic expression. The initiative also supports local artists by offering them a venue to display and potentially sell their work without incurring commission fees. This can be particularly beneficial for emerging artists looking to gain exposure and experience in the art world. Additionally, the collaboration between the public art commission and the library highlights the importance of community partnerships in promoting cultural and educational activities.
What's Next?
Following the submission deadline, the selected artworks will be prepared for display, and the exhibition will officially open to the public on June 15. The event is expected to attract visitors from the local community and beyond, providing an opportunity for artists to gain recognition and for the public to engage with diverse artistic interpretations of prehistoric themes. The success of this exhibition could lead to future collaborations and similar events, further enriching the cultural landscape of Mansfield.
