What's Happening?
PepsiCo, Inc. has announced the launch of Doritos Protein, a new line of chips that offer 10 grams of protein per serving. The chips are formulated with casein and nine amino acids, available in nacho cheese and sweet and tangy barbecue flavors. This
product launch is part of PepsiCo Foods' strategy to adapt its portfolio to meet the increasing consumer demand for snacks with functional ingredients. According to Hernán Tantardini, chief marketing officer for PepsiCo Foods US, 70% of consumers desire protein in their salty snacks. The new Doritos Protein chips are available in two sizes, with plans for additional sizes in the future.
Why It's Important?
The introduction of protein-packed Doritos reflects a significant shift in consumer preferences towards healthier snack options that offer functional benefits. This move by PepsiCo could set a precedent for other snack manufacturers to incorporate more nutritional elements into their products. The focus on protein aligns with broader health and wellness trends, potentially attracting health-conscious consumers and expanding the market for functional snacks. This innovation may also drive competition among snack brands to develop similar products, influencing the overall snack industry landscape.
