What's Happening?
Zibby Owens is adapting the best-selling anthology 'On Being Jewish Now' for the stage, in collaboration with The Braid. The production will premiere in Los Angeles on March 22, followed by a mini-tour in Southern California and the Bay Area, and will also be available online via Zoom. The stage adaptation will feature essays from Jewish writers and cultural voices, dramatizing the lived experiences of Jews in a world marked by conflict and rising antisemitism. The show aims to provide a platform for Jewish narratives, fostering community and dialogue through personal stories.
Why It's Important?
This adaptation is important as it brings to the forefront the diverse experiences of Jewish individuals in contemporary society, particularly in the face of increasing
antisemitism. By transforming these narratives into a stage production, the project seeks to create a shared space for reflection and understanding, potentially reaching a broad audience both in-person and online. It highlights the role of the arts in addressing social issues and promoting cultural awareness. The production also underscores the power of storytelling in uniting communities and encouraging empathy, making it a significant cultural event.
