What's Happening?
Goulburn Region Tourism (GRT), a collaboration of Greater Shepparton, Strathbogie, and Mitchell Shire Local Government Authorities, is set to launch a new digital presence in autumn 2026. This initiative
aims to enhance the region's tourism economy, which currently stands at $337 million, with a target to reach $500 million annually by 2030. The strategy involves community engagement, inviting residents to share their favorite local attractions to be featured on the new platform. The project is led by Jane Lovell, Chief Executive, and Louise Bannister, marketing and industry lead, who emphasize the unique offerings of the region, including nature experiences, scenic drives, and historical sites.
Why It's Important?
The new digital strategy is crucial for revitalizing the Goulburn region's tourism sector, which is a significant contributor to the local economy. By leveraging digital marketing and community involvement, GRT aims to attract more visitors, thereby increasing economic activity and creating job opportunities. The initiative aligns with the State Government's $40 billion visitor economy plan, highlighting the importance of tourism in regional development. Successful implementation could serve as a model for other regions looking to boost their tourism industries through innovative digital solutions.
What's Next?
As the launch of the new digital platform approaches, GRT will continue to gather input from local residents and stakeholders to ensure the website reflects the region's diverse attractions. The focus will be on creating a user-friendly and engaging online experience that can effectively compete with other tourism boards. The success of this initiative will depend on the active participation of the community and the ability to market the region's unique offerings to both domestic and international audiences.
