What's Happening?
Consumer Reports highlights the issue of mice infestations in vehicles, which can be identified by signs such as scratches, chewed wires, droppings, and nesting materials. Michael Crossen, who maintains testing vehicles for Consumer Reports, explains
that mice can enter cars through air vents and build nests in components like the pollen filter. To address an infestation, experts recommend thoroughly cleaning and disinfecting the vehicle, avoiding vacuuming to prevent airborne contaminants, and replacing the pollen filter. Preventative measures include using deterrents like peppermint oil pouches and capsaicin-infused tape, as well as keeping the car free of food debris and sealing garages tightly.
Why It's Important?
Mice infestations in vehicles pose both health and safety risks. Mice can cause respiratory health concerns and damage vehicle components, including wiring, which can lead to safety hazards if left unchecked. Addressing these infestations promptly is crucial to maintaining vehicle safety and preventing costly repairs. Additionally, understanding how to prevent infestations can help car owners protect their vehicles and avoid potential health risks associated with rodent infestations.
