What's Happening?
Saipem has been awarded a Limited Notice to Proceed (LNTP) contract by ExxonMobil Guyana for the Longtail deepwater development in the Stabroek Block. The contract, valued at approximately $150 million,
covers preliminary engineering and procurement for the subsea umbilicals, risers, and flowlines (SURF) system. This development is located offshore Guyana in about 1,750 meters of water. The LNTP allows Saipem to begin detailed engineering and initial procurement activities while ExxonMobil and its partners work towards a final investment decision and regulatory approvals. If fully sanctioned, the contract could expand to include construction and installation, with a total value between $750 million and $1.5 billion over four years.
Why It's Important?
This contract highlights the ongoing expansion of offshore oil development in Guyana, a region that has become a significant source of new global oil supply. For Saipem, securing this contract reinforces its role as a key player in the development of Guyana's offshore oil sector. The project is part of ExxonMobil's broader strategy to capitalize on the rich resources of the Stabroek Block, which has already seen multiple large-scale developments. The success of this project could further boost Guyana's economy and solidify its position as a major player in the global oil market.
What's Next?
As Saipem progresses with the initial phases of the contract, ExxonMobil and its partners will continue to work towards securing the necessary regulatory approvals and making a final investment decision. The outcome of these processes will determine the full scope and timeline of the project. The development could also attract further investment and interest in Guyana's offshore oil sector, potentially leading to additional projects and economic growth for the region.
