What's Happening?
DHL Supply Chain is increasing its investment in Vietnam, focusing on automation and infrastructure to support the country's role as a hub for global retail and technology manufacturing. Bertrand Juvigny, Managing Director of DHL Supply Chain in Vietnam, highlighted
the expansion in northern Vietnam, where high-tech investment is concentrated. DHL plans to build an 80,000 square meter facility to support manufacturing and export needs, incorporating advanced automation to address rising labor costs and improve supply chain resilience. The company is deploying 'light touch automations' and scaling robotics within its facilities to enhance efficiency and continuity for clients.
Why It's Important?
DHL's expansion in Vietnam underscores the country's growing importance in global supply chains, particularly in technology manufacturing. The move towards automation reflects broader trends in logistics, where companies are seeking to mitigate rising labor costs and improve operational resilience. This development could strengthen Vietnam's position as a competitive manufacturing hub, attracting further investment and potentially influencing regional economic dynamics. Businesses expanding in Vietnam may need to consider logistics as a strategic advantage rather than a mere cost center.
