What's Happening?
Hyatt Hotels Corporation has announced that its RiseHY program has exceeded its initial goal by hiring over 12,000 Opportunity Youth globally since 2018. The program, which aims to connect untapped talent with career opportunities in hospitality, initially
set a target of 10,000 hires by 2025. With this milestone achieved ahead of schedule, Hyatt has set a new goal to hire an additional 5,000 individuals by the end of 2028. RiseHY is part of Hyatt's broader World of Care initiative, which focuses on advancing care for people, the planet, and responsible business practices. The program collaborates with community-based organizations and public-private partners to provide training, skills development, and employment opportunities.
Why It's Important?
The success of the RiseHY program highlights the potential for corporate initiatives to address employment challenges faced by Opportunity Youth—individuals from under-resourced communities who are not currently working, in training, or attending school. By providing pathways to meaningful employment, Hyatt is not only contributing to workforce development but also enhancing its talent pool with diverse perspectives. This initiative reflects a growing trend among businesses to engage in social responsibility efforts that have tangible impacts on communities. The program's expansion could serve as a model for other industries seeking to leverage corporate resources for social good.
What's Next?
Hyatt plans to continue its efforts to hire from untapped talent pools, with a focus on retention, progressive skills training, and long-term career mobility. The company is encouraging industry peers to adopt similar approaches to talent development and career access. As the hospitality industry evolves, Hyatt's commitment to sustainable career pathways may influence broader industry practices and policies. The ongoing collaboration with community organizations and the emphasis on skills development suggest a continued focus on creating lasting impacts in the communities where Hyatt operates.
