Viridis Mining and Minerals, an Australian company, is in advanced negotiations with potential buyers in Europe and the United States for the offtake from its Colossus rare earths project located in Minas Gerais, Brazil. The company has recently inaugurated
a rare earths research and processing center in Poços de Caldas, which is expected to produce the first mixed rare earth carbonate from the Colossus mine. This facility will process minerals such as neodymium and terbium, and is designed to handle up to 100kg of ore per hour. Viridis CEO Rafael Moreno has stated that the company is not engaging with Chinese buyers, opting instead to focus on Western markets. The project, estimated to cost between $360 million and $400 million, is expected to reach steady-state production by late 2028, with financing anticipated to be completed in the third quarter of the year.
