What's Happening?
Kellogg Community College (KCC) is set to host a free lecture by Kalamazoo-based muralist Patrick Hershberger, known as Go Bonus Saves. Scheduled for May 8 at the Davidson Visual and Performing Arts Center auditorium in Battle Creek, the lecture is part
of the DeVries Artist Lecture Series under the KCC Art on Campus initiative. Hershberger will discuss his mural work in the region, share insights into his artistic process, and engage with attendees in a Q&A session. His work includes notable murals for the Color the Creek festival and a new design for a parking garage in Kalamazoo.
Why It's Important?
This event highlights the role of public art in community engagement and cultural enrichment. By offering a platform for artists like Hershberger, KCC fosters an appreciation for the arts and encourages dialogue between artists and the public. Such initiatives can inspire local artists and contribute to the cultural vibrancy of the region. Additionally, public lectures by established artists can provide valuable learning opportunities for students and community members interested in the arts.
What's Next?
Following the lecture, attendees may have the opportunity to view Hershberger's murals in the region, potentially leading to increased interest in public art projects. The event could also inspire similar initiatives at other educational institutions, promoting broader access to the arts. KCC may continue to host similar events as part of its commitment to arts education and community engagement.
