Swedish company VBN Components has developed a new method to enhance the wear resistance of slurry pumps using 3D printing technology. By collaborating with an unnamed pump company, VBN Components has introduced the Vibenite Nucleation Net Zone (VNNZ),
which facilitates the bonding of cast iron to Vibenite 480, a high-hardness cemented carbide material. This innovation allows for the integration of 3D-printed wear-resistant materials into traditional casting methods, specifically targeting key wear areas in larger pump assemblies. The approach is designed to extend the lifespan of pumps by ensuring structural integrity and strong metallurgical bonding during casting.
