What's Happening?
Latam Airlines Group has decided to equip an additional five Boeing 777 aircraft with AeroShark riblet films, as announced by Lufthansa Technik. This decision follows the successful implementation of the films on Latam's fleet, which demonstrated a 1% reduction in fuel consumption and emissions. The AeroShark film, developed by Lufthansa Technik, enhances the aerodynamics of aircraft by reducing drag, thereby improving fuel efficiency. The films have been applied to Latam's 777-300ERs, with the first aircraft being modified in December 2023. The full fleet of ten 777s is expected to be equipped by the end of 2027. The AeroShark technology uses prism-shaped riblets to move air turbulence away from the aircraft's surface, which is particularly
beneficial for long-haul flights.
