What's Happening?
The St. Louis Cardinals have placed rookie right-hander Matt Pushard on the 15-day injured list due to right knee patellar tendinitis. This decision follows Pushard's major league debut on Sunday, where he pitched one inning in an 11-7 loss to the Tampa
Bay Rays. During his debut, Pushard allowed three runs on three hits and one walk, striking out one batter. In response to Pushard's injury, the Cardinals have recalled right-hander Gordon Graceffo from Triple-A Memphis. Graceffo, who was selected in the fifth round of the 2021 MLB Draft, has a record of 3-2 with one save and a 6.04 ERA over 50 2/3 innings in 28 games for St. Louis over the past two seasons.
Why It's Important?
Pushard's placement on the injured list is a setback for the Cardinals, who are navigating the early stages of the MLB season. The injury could impact the team's bullpen depth and overall pitching strategy. Pushard's absence may provide an opportunity for Graceffo to prove his capabilities at the major league level. The Cardinals will need to adjust their roster and pitching rotation to accommodate this change, which could influence their performance in upcoming games. The team's ability to manage injuries and maintain a competitive edge will be crucial as the season progresses.
