What's Happening?
Monbake Group, a prominent Spanish frozen bakery company, has announced its acquisition of Triticum, a local foodservice supplier based in Cabrera de Mar, near Barcelona. Triticum specializes in manufacturing and marketing bakery products for the hospitality
sector and operates through a distributor network both in Spain and internationally. The acquisition is expected to bolster Monbake's value proposition in the horeca (hotel, restaurant, and catering) channel. Triticum, which generated over €10 million ($11.8 million) in revenue last year, will continue to operate independently under its current management team. Founder Xevi Ramón will assume an advisory role at Monbake, focusing on product development and research and development (R&D). Monbake, which was acquired by CVC Capital Partners in 2024, employs over 2,500 people and operates 11 factories and 28 branches across Spain.
Why It's Important?
This acquisition is significant as it represents Monbake's strategic move to strengthen its position in the foodservice sector, particularly in the horeca channel. By integrating Triticum's innovative product capabilities and dynamic team, Monbake aims to expand its market impact while maintaining Triticum's unique identity. This move could potentially enhance Monbake's competitive edge in the global bakery market, where it already sells products in over 30 countries. The acquisition also highlights the ongoing trend of consolidation in the foodservice industry, as companies seek to leverage synergies and expand their market reach. For Triticum, joining forces with Monbake provides the support and vision needed for its next growth phase, potentially leading to increased market presence and innovation in product offerings.
What's Next?
Following the acquisition, Triticum will continue to operate independently, with its management team intact, ensuring continuity in its operations and business strategy. Founder Xevi Ramón's advisory role at Monbake will likely focus on enhancing product development and R&D efforts, potentially leading to new and innovative bakery products. As Monbake integrates Triticum's capabilities, the company may explore further expansion opportunities within the horeca channel, both domestically and internationally. Stakeholders in the foodservice industry will be watching closely to see how this acquisition impacts market dynamics and whether it prompts similar consolidation moves among competitors.
