What's Happening?
The NHL Foundation has announced the distribution of $400,000 in grants to 13 organizations across the U.S. and Canada. These grants are part of the NHL Foundation's mission to support youth development, health and well-being, pathways to hockey, equal
opportunity, and military support through Operation Line Shift. In the U.S., organizations such as LiFEsport at The Ohio State University and CoachArt received $25,000 each to further their initiatives. Additionally, the NHL Foundation U.S. has collaborated with Boston Fleet captain Megan Keller to donate $100,000 to two organizations under the Empowerment Grant for Girls Hockey program. This initiative aims to promote girls' and women's hockey, with guidance from NHL Foundation Ambassador Haley Skarupa.
Why It's Important?
The NHL Foundation's grants play a crucial role in fostering community development and promoting inclusivity within the sport of hockey. By supporting organizations that focus on youth development and equal opportunity, the NHL is helping to create a more diverse and accessible environment for future generations. The emphasis on girls' and women's hockey is particularly significant, as it addresses gender disparities in sports and encourages female participation. These grants not only enhance the social impact of hockey but also strengthen community ties and provide opportunities for underrepresented groups.
