What's Happening?
The Advanced Drama class at M-A concluded their year with a performance of 'Play On!', a play that humorously depicts the chaos of putting on a production. The play, written by Rick Abbot, involves a cast preparing for a murder mystery play while dealing
with constant script revisions from the playwright. The performance, which took place from April 25 to May 2, featured a 'show within a show' format, highlighting the challenges and comedic mishaps that occur during rehearsals and opening night. The students took on various roles, from acting to directing and managing technical aspects, showcasing their skills and creativity.
Why It's Important?
This performance highlights the educational value of theater programs in schools, providing students with opportunities to develop a wide range of skills, including acting, directing, and technical production. The experience of managing a live performance with its inherent unpredictability teaches students problem-solving, teamwork, and adaptability. Additionally, the play's theme of overcoming challenges and working collaboratively resonates with audiences, offering a relatable and entertaining portrayal of the theater world. Such programs also foster a sense of community and creativity, encouraging students to express themselves and explore different aspects of performing arts.
