Overview Energy has been awarded its first contract with the U.S. Air Force to investigate the use of solar power for remote military installations. The startup, which emerged from stealth mode in December,
plans to collect solar energy in geostationary orbit (GEO) and transmit it to Earth-based solar panels. This innovative approach aims to ensure continuous power supply, even at night, without requiring modifications to existing infrastructure. The contract will focus on two types of military environments: remote bases like Eielson Air Force Base in Alaska, where fuel delivery is challenging, and strategically important bases such as Andersen Air Force Base in Guam, where power disruptions could be advantageous to adversaries. Overview Energy's CEO, Marc Berte, highlighted the Air Force's leadership in exploring new energy resilience strategies, emphasizing the potential to enhance military operations by transforming energy delivery methods.
