What's Happening?
The Donut Half Marathon in Sacramento has returned for its second year, attracting nearly 400 runners. This fun run, organized by Libby Hall and Sarah Tabor, aims to combine community engagement with fitness by having participants run to nine local donut shops. Instead of an entry fee, participants are encouraged to donate to Girls on the Run, a nonprofit organization. The event is designed to be a lighthearted way to incorporate donuts into the runners' training for the California International Marathon (CIM).
Why It's Important?
The Donut Half Marathon serves as a unique community event that promotes physical activity while supporting a charitable cause. By encouraging donations to Girls on the Run, the event helps fund programs that empower young girls through
running. This initiative not only fosters community spirit but also highlights the importance of supporting local businesses and nonprofits. The event's success could inspire similar community-driven activities that blend fitness with philanthropy.
