What's Happening?
The Abu Dhabi Early Childhood Authority (ECA) and Hub71, a global tech ecosystem in Abu Dhabi, have announced the opening of applications for the 2026 Cohort of the Anjal Z program. This initiative is an experiential fellowship aimed at supporting global startups
that develop solutions for early childhood challenges. The program, which began in 2020, has already supported over 45 startups. It focuses on key areas such as child obesity, Arabic literacy, and child mental health. Selected startups will receive a comprehensive support package, including AED 500,000 per startup, access to Hub71’s ecosystem, and collaboration with the ECA to facilitate pilot and funding pathways. The program aims to strengthen Abu Dhabi's position as a hub for early childhood innovation.
Why It's Important?
The Anjal Z program is significant as it addresses foundational challenges in early childhood development, which can have long-term societal impacts. By supporting startups in this field, the program not only fosters innovation but also positions Abu Dhabi as a leader in early childhood technology solutions. The financial and strategic support provided to startups can accelerate their growth and enable real-world adoption of their technologies, potentially benefiting children and families in Abu Dhabi and beyond. This initiative also highlights the importance of collaboration between government entities and the private sector in driving innovation and addressing societal needs.
What's Next?
Applications for the 2026 Cohort will close on February 28, 2026. Hub71 will lead the startup selection process, with the ECA participating in all evaluation stages to ensure alignment with Abu Dhabi’s priorities. The selected startups will be monitored for up to three years to track their progress and impact. This ongoing evaluation will help ensure that the program delivers sustained outcomes and long-term value creation. The initiative is expected to attract global attention and potentially inspire similar programs in other regions.
