What's Happening?
The Bluffton Public Library is hosting a program titled 'Three Sisters Garden & Ancient American Seeds' on June 2, 2026, at 6:00 p.m. This educational event will focus on the indigenous Three Sisters Garden method, which involves the cultivation of corn,
beans, and squash together. The program will provide participants with information about some of the oldest seed varieties in America. Attendees will receive a collection of these seeds, donated by Baker Creek Heirloom Seeds, to plant in their own gardens. The event is open to adults, as well as teens and children accompanied by an adult. Registration is available both in person and online.
Why It's Important?
This program highlights the importance of preserving indigenous agricultural practices and heirloom seeds, which are crucial for maintaining biodiversity and cultural heritage. By educating the public about these traditional methods, the library is fostering an appreciation for sustainable agriculture and the historical significance of these crops. Participants gain hands-on experience and knowledge that can contribute to local food security and environmental sustainability. The event also supports community engagement and learning, encouraging participants to explore and adopt eco-friendly gardening practices.
