What's Happening?
A new national rating, the Where You Work Matters List, has been released, evaluating 1,750 major U.S. employers on pay, career advancement, and retention. The list, created by the Schultz Family Foundation and the Burning Glass Institute, uses empirical
data from over 12 million American workers across nearly 55,000 occupations. Companies are awarded platinum or gold badges based on their performance in three categories: Early Career Jobs, Growth Jobs, and Stability Jobs. Boeing, General Motors, and Mayo Clinic are among the 22 companies that received platinum recognition across all categories. The initiative aims to provide transparent information on job quality, helping companies improve career pathways and job design.
Why It's Important?
This rating system provides valuable insights for HR leaders and companies, highlighting the importance of investing in workforce development and creating quality jobs. By recognizing companies that excel in pay, promotion, and retention, the list encourages other employers to adopt similar practices, potentially leading to improved job satisfaction and employee retention across industries. The initiative also serves as a market signal, indicating which companies are leading in workforce investment and setting a benchmark for others to follow. As the labor market evolves, particularly with the rise of AI, companies with strong talent pipelines will be better positioned to adapt to changes and seize new opportunities.
