What's Happening?
Thyssenkrupp Uhde is set to build a new polyester plant in Yumurtalık, Türkiye, utilizing its patented Melt-To-Resin (MTR) process. This technology significantly reduces energy consumption and CO2 emissions, aligning with modern sustainability standards.
The plant will have a production capacity of 324,000 tons of PET pellets annually, suitable for various packaging applications and bulk continuous filament production. Thyssenkrupp Uhde will provide licensing, engineering, and major plant components, while also training Koksan's operating personnel. The PET pellets produced will be distributed locally and internationally, including markets in the Middle East, America, Europe, and Africa.
Why It's Important?
The development of this low-emission polyester plant represents a significant advancement in sustainable industrial practices. By reducing energy consumption and CO2 emissions, Thyssenkrupp Uhde's MTR process offers both economic and environmental benefits. This aligns with global efforts to reduce industrial carbon footprints and promote sustainable manufacturing. The plant's ability to supply PET pellets to diverse markets enhances Koksan's competitive position and supports international trade, potentially influencing global polyester production standards.
What's Next?
The completion and commissioning of the plant are scheduled for 2028. As the project progresses, Thyssenkrupp Uhde and Koksan will focus on optimizing production processes and expanding market reach. The successful implementation of the MTR process may encourage other manufacturers to adopt similar technologies, further advancing sustainability in the polyester industry. Stakeholders will likely monitor the plant's performance and environmental impact closely.
