What's Happening?
Agriculture Secretary Russell Redding announced the PA Preferred Marketing Grants program at Oak Grove Farms in Cumberland County. The program, totaling $500,000, aims to support Pennsylvania farmers and agricultural producers in marketing their products.
Grants of up to $10,000 are available to reimburse promotional costs under the PA Preferred, PA Preferred Homegrown by Heroes, or PA Preferred Organic programs. Governor Josh Shapiro signed legislation in November 2023 to authorize these grants, marking the first round since the program's inception in 2011. The initiative seeks to enhance the visibility and credibility of Pennsylvania-produced agricultural goods.
Why It's Important?
The PA Preferred Grants are crucial for Pennsylvania's agricultural sector, which ranks third in the nation for organic product sales. By providing financial support for marketing, the program helps local farmers and producers increase their market reach and consumer trust. This initiative not only strengthens the state's economy but also promotes sustainable agricultural practices. The grants align with Governor Shapiro's economic development strategy, emphasizing the importance of rural communities and farms in Pennsylvania's overall economic success. The program supports over 48,800 farms and nearly 600,000 jobs, contributing significantly to the state's economy.
