What's Happening?
Central European Media Enterprises (CME), a media and entertainment company operating in Central and Eastern Europe, has joined the Alliance for Creativity and Entertainment (ACE). ACE, launched in 2017
and led by the Motion Picture Association (MPA), is a coalition aimed at fighting piracy worldwide through legal and lobbying efforts. The coalition includes over 50 media and entertainment companies, such as Amazon, Apple TV+, Netflix, and Warner Bros. Klára Brachtlová, deputy CEO and chief external affairs at CME, emphasized the importance of strengthening efforts to protect Europe's creative industries. Larissa Knapp, executive vice president at the MPA, highlighted the growing sophistication of piracy threats and the coalition's role in protecting content.
Why It's Important?
The inclusion of CME in ACE underscores the ongoing global battle against piracy, which poses significant challenges to the media and entertainment industry. By joining forces with ACE, CME aims to bolster efforts to safeguard intellectual property and support lawful content distribution. This collaboration is crucial as piracy continues to evolve, becoming more sophisticated and coordinated. The coalition's expansion enhances its ability to combat piracy effectively, benefiting content creators and distributors by protecting their revenue streams and ensuring the integrity of the audiovisual market.
