What's Happening?
Gene Fallaize, known for directing Kevin Spacey's post-acquittal film 'Control,' is set to direct a World War II feature film centered on the German occupation of Guernsey Island. The project, which Fallaize will write and direct, aims to bring an original
story to life on the island where he grew up. Emily Hasseldine will produce the film through Cupsogue Pictures. The production team is in discussions with the island's governing body to facilitate filming, with shooting scheduled to begin later this summer. Casting details are yet to be announced.
Why It's Important?
This film project highlights the significance of telling lesser-known historical stories, such as the occupation of the Channel Islands during World War II. By setting the film on Guernsey Island, Fallaize aims to involve the local community and bring attention to this part of history. The project could boost the island's cultural and economic profile, attracting tourism and providing opportunities for local talent. Additionally, it underscores the importance of authentic storytelling in historical films, which can educate and engage audiences worldwide.
