What's Happening?
Lassus Bros. Oil Inc. is planning to sell its Ohio-based convenience stores, marking its exit from the state. The company has retained NRC Realty and Capital Advisors LLC to manage the sale of five convenience stores with gas stations located in Delta,
Montpelier, Napoleon, and two other locations. The stores are being sold without any convenience-store branding and can be purchased with or without fuel supply. Lassus Bros., which operates 16 stores in Fort Wayne, Indiana, and 14 others in the northeast corner of the state, will have no presence in Ohio once the sale is completed. The bid deadline for these properties is set for May 7. Lassus Bros. has been in business for over a century, having celebrated its 100th anniversary in 2025, and recently rebranded its retail business from Lassus Handy Dandy to Lassus.
Why It's Important?
The sale of Lassus Bros.' Ohio stores signifies a strategic shift for the company, potentially impacting the local convenience store market and fuel supply dynamics in the region. For Lassus Bros., this move allows the company to consolidate its operations and focus on its core market in Indiana. The exit could open opportunities for other convenience store operators to expand their footprint in Ohio. Additionally, the sale could affect local employment and the availability of Lassus Bros.' unique offerings, such as Elmo’s Pizza & Subs and the Higher Grounds coffee program, which are popular in their existing locations.
What's Next?
Following the sale, Lassus Bros. will likely concentrate on strengthening its presence in Indiana. Potential buyers of the Ohio stores may introduce new branding and services, altering the competitive landscape. The outcome of the sale could influence future strategic decisions by Lassus Bros. and other regional convenience store operators. Stakeholders, including employees and local customers, will be watching closely to see how the transition unfolds and what new opportunities or challenges it may bring.
