What's Happening?
Disney Channel and Disney+ have announced the production of 'Zombies 5,' the latest installment in the popular 'Zombies' franchise. However, original stars Milo Manheim and Meg Donnelly will not reprise their roles as Zed and Addison. Instead, the film
will feature Malachi Barton and Freya Skye, who will continue their roles as Victor and Nova from 'Zombies 4: Dawn of the Vampires.' Despite their absence from the cast, Manheim and Donnelly will remain involved as executive producers. The new film will introduce a storyline involving mermaids, adding a fresh dynamic to the series. Production is set to begin in New Zealand this spring, with Paul Hoen returning as director.
Why It's Important?
The 'Zombies' franchise has been a significant success for Disney Channel Original Movies, appealing to a young audience with its themes of unity and acceptance. The decision to continue the series without its original stars marks a notable shift, potentially impacting the franchise's fan base and viewership. This move reflects Disney's strategy to refresh its content while maintaining the core elements that have resonated with audiences. The introduction of new characters and storylines could attract a broader audience and sustain the franchise's popularity in a competitive entertainment landscape.
